Lactobacillus plantarum W1
Lactobacillus plantarum W1 is one of the best studied Lactobacilli. The complete genome of this bacteria has been mapped. L. plantarum W1 can be cultured to high densities, is amenable to genetic transformations and enjoys a robustness that ensures a relatively high survival rate during the gastro-intestinal passage.
The versatile character of L. plantarum W(CFS)1, together with its fully known genome and the tremendous amount of research data, makes it a model organism and extremely suitable for a range of indications. The strain seems to have potential to:
