Winclove and NIZO Food Research have started a three-year strategic partnership to accelerate the discovery and development of novel probiotic solutions. By combining the expertise of both organisations, new opportunities emerge to translate microbiome science into innovative applications that improve quality of life.
A unique combination of expertise
For almost 40 years, Winclove has been translating scientific insights into premium probiotic solutions. NIZO Food Research brings more than 70 years of experience in food and health and manages a unique collection of approximately 4,500 microbial strains, of which around 2,000 are proprietary. By combining this collection with Winclove’s expertise in probiotic development, formulation and commercialisation, we are strengthening our innovation pipeline and creating new opportunities for future product development.
Building the next generation of probiotic solutions together
Over the coming years, experts from both organisations will work together to further explore the potential of this microbial collection. The collaboration focuses on identifying new opportunities for health solutions that address both current and future needs. At the same time, the partnership creates space for sharing knowledge, exchanging perspectives and exploring new directions for innovation.
“This collaboration is based on a shared belief in the power of interdependence,” says Maarten Pekelharing, CEO of Winclove Probiotics. “True innovation emerges when organisations combine their strengths, knowledge and purpose.”
Innovation at the intersection of disciplines
What makes this partnership particularly valuable is the cross-fertilisation of different areas of expertise. Microbiologists, food technologists, clinicians, bioinformaticians and product developers will work together to generate new insights and identify promising innovation opportunities. It is often at these intersections that the most meaningful breakthroughs take shape.
Through this partnership, we are taking another important step towards enriching our strain database and translating microbiome science into innovative, evidence-based solutions that improve quality of life.

Team members from Winclove Probiotics and NIZO Food Research celebrate the start of their strategic partnership focused on microbial innovation and the development of future probiotic solutions.
