Update: First participant enrolled in our autism study
First participant enrolled in autism study
We’re pleased to announce that the first participants have enrolled in our clinical study on Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) in children. In collaboration with Professor Hania Szajewska from the University of Warsaw, Winclove investigates the potential clinical benefits of a newly designed premium probiotic formulation for children with ASD and their families.
Recent study shows unique gut microbiota in ASD
This research gains significance with a study published in Nature Microbiology last July, which supports the involvement of the microbiota in children with autism. The study identified 31 biological markers in the gut-microbiota that could distinguish children with ASD from others, with 91% accuracy. While promising as a diagnostic tool, further research is needed to clarify the exact role of the microbiota in ASD.
The gut-brain connection and the role of premium probiotics
Our study aims to build on these groundbreaking findings by exploring how our premium probiotic formulation designed specifically for individuals with ASD, can influence the gut-brain connection in children with ASD. This focus aligns with recent insights from a comprehensive review that emphasize the diet–microbiota–gut–brain axis as crucial for brain health. While diet can significantly influence the gut microbiota, altering eating habits in children with ASD is often difficult. Therefore, our research focuses on using indication specific probiotics as a practical alternative to modulate the gut microbiome, with the goal of improving brain health and overall well-being in children with autism.
Improving quality of life
Commenting on the study, our Senior Scientific Educator Mariya Petrova said, “Our collaboration with Professor Hania Szajewska is key to uncovering how probiotics could benefit children with ASD. Given that brain health is one of our core focus areas, this research reflects our commitment to pioneering new therapeutic approaches that leverage the gut-brain axis. Winclove’s goal is to offer children with autism and their families new, science-based solutions to enhance their quality of life.”
